Treatments for Digestion Problems

Digestion is the process of breaking down food and absorbing the nutrients into the bloodstream. Any malfunctioning within a digestive part/organ will result in digestive problems.

A large range of digestive conditions are commonly seen in our Chinese Medicine treatment clinics in Melbourne. Our goal in treating these digestive problems is to restore the proper function and balance of the digestive system and treat any other underlying issues with effective methods of Chinese Medicine.

Our experience in Chinese Medicine has allowed us to produce much success, helping people overcome chronic digestive problems.

Some conditions of the digestion we treat (but are not limited to) are:

Abdominal Pain: Abdominal pain is a very common medical condition that can be either acute or chronic. There can be many different reasons for abdominal pain. Along with modern medicine diagnosis, we can target the origin of the problem and treat it with natural Chinese Medicine.

Bloating: Gas is a by-product produced during the digestion process. The abdomen becomes bloated when there is an excessive production of gas either through the foods that are consumed, lifestyle, malfunctioning of the digestive system or a combination of these factors. Whatever the cause may be, we will address all these aspects.

Constipation: The problem of constipation arises when there are infrequent or difficult bowel movements. Some of the common reasons for constipation are insufficient water consumption, changes in routine, stress, insufficient fibre intake in the daily diet and an imbalance within the digestive system that can be improved with Chinese Medicine.

Diarrhoea: There can be many causes to experiencing acute or chronic diarrhoea. The goal is to alleviate symptoms one is suffering from such as diarrhoea by tackling the root cause of the problem.

Fatty Liver: Fatty liver disease occurs when there is an excessive accumulation of fat in the liver cells. Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity are some of the factors that may cause fatty liver. Over consumption of alcohol can also be a contributing factor.

Infections with bacteria such as helicobacter pylori, bile reflux, stress, autoimmune conditions can contribute to chronic gastritis. The most common symptom is upper abdominal pain, as well as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and weight loss.

GERD/Acid Reflux: The rise of stomach acid from the stomach to the oesophagus is called acid reflux or GERD. This is due to mucosal damage within the stomach and oesophagus and symptoms include heartburn, regurgitation, trouble swallowing while the less common symptoms may include chest pain, nausea and pain with swallowing.

IBS/Irritable Bowel Syndrome: IBS is a name given to a group of symptoms such as frequent abdominal pain and discomfort, bloating and alteration of bowel habits – constipation and diarrhoea. There may also be urgency for bowel motions, abdominal distension and stress related issues.

Indigestion: Indigestion or dyspepsia is a condition where the normal functioning of digestion is impaired. The symptoms include frequent pain in the upper abdomen, abdominal fullness, bloating, nausea, heartburn or belching.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Inflammatory bowel disease is a group of diseases that involves inflammation of the small and large intestine. The main types are Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis. Symptoms experienced include diarrhoea, abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, vomiting, cramping and spasms in the lower abdomen.
